South Lakeland Parks Leads the Campaign To Protect The Lakes

Holiday park group South Lakeland Parks has become the first business in the Southern Lake District to sign up to a major environmental campaign to protect the regions Lakes for now and forever.

The company owns three popular Lake District holiday parks including White Cross Bay in Windermere, Fallbarrow Park in Bowness and Limefitt Park in the Troutbeck Valley.  All of the parks enjoy idyllic settings.

South Lakeland Parks has signed up to the new campaign, which is masterminded responsible tourism organisation, Nurture Lakeland.  Love Your Lakes is the latest campaign by the organisation which has already benefitted from the support of South Lakeland Parks.  Indeed over the past few years South Lakeland Parks has raised an enormous £50,000 for the charity just by asking customers to pledge £1 out of every booking.  The funds have resulted in new walkways for disabled visitors and cleaner waters for voles.

Throughout 2011 and into the future, South Lakeland Parks has committed to stop using cleaning and laundry products which contain phosphates.  This damaging chemical has been one of the leading contributors to blue green algae, an issue which is blighting the UK’s countryside and has recently been drawn attention to via programmes such as Countryfile.

South Lakeland Parks is also encouraging all its guests to buy phosphate free products, which are now stocked in shops on the parks’ sites.

Caroline Farrer, Marketing Manager for South Lakeland Parks hopes their support of the campaign will encourage others to get involved. “As a company we pride ourselves on being environmentally friendly and joining this campaign means we can encourage our guests to do the same.  Thousands of people visit the Lakes each year to enjoy a self-catering holiday and those staying with us can be sure that they are supporting a very positive campaign to ensure that the Lakes remain beautiful and safe for the future holidays.”

Ruth Kirk of Nurture Lakeland commented on how much the work by South Lakeland Parks has benefited their campaigns: “Nurture Lakeland has been delighted with the continuing support of South Lakeland Parks.  Their help and generous donations, which are well over £50,000 to date, have helped us fulfil our campaigns for a better Lakeland.  The company is now one of the lead sponsors of our ‘Love your Lakes’ campaign to advise people about the impacts of cleaning and laundry products cause to our lakes and rivers.  With South Lakeland Parks support we are encouraging visitors to use phosphate free products which, unlike others, do not encourage the growth of damaging blue green algae.  South Lakeland Parks has also committed to using phosphate free products themselves so it’s great to see a sponsor leading by example.  South Lakeland Parks has created a fantastic benchmark in terms of their support and we hope that many other businesses follow suit.”

South Lakeland Parks offer holidays from as little as £162 per stay for a three night weekend break or a four night mid-week break. This price is based on accommodation in a four berth caravan at Fallbarrow Park’.

The company also offers holiday lodges and caravans for sale. In the Lake District units range from as little as £45,000 for a caravan and from £85,000 for a luxury holiday lodge.
